Why Are You Deficient in Vitamin D?

By Res-Q editor 5 months ago 1059 Views

Vitamin D deficiency is prevalent in today's society. Is the rate truly increasing or are more people simply being diagnosed? Read on to find out.

As it turns out, the rate actually is increasing, according to Melissa Josselson, N.D. Here's why:

  • People generally have less sun exposure, whether they are liberally applying sunscreen for fear of skin cancer or are spending more time indoors (more time working in an office, more time on the internet, children playing video games instead of playing outside, etc.).
  • Obesity has become epidemic and this is linked with lower vitamin D.
  • Rampant use of statin medications has led to lower cholesterol levels. Cholesterol is needed to make vitamin D. It is better to manage cholesterol levels naturally.
  • There are numerous medications that can block the production of vitamin D.
  • Certain conditions that have increased in prevalence, including celiac disease, prevent the absorption of vitamin D.
  • Roundup (glyphosate) in our food supply decreases vitamin D.
